More information and FAQ Leather Watches
Leather watches are watches featuring straps made of either genuine or faux leather. These watches are considered more formal than models with fabric, nylon, or rubber straps. Most dress watches feature leather straps for obvious reasons. Leather straps are generally black or brown in colour.
What are popular leather watch strap brands?
At Tic Watches UK we are famous for our value for money brands but we also stock some luxury names like Bulova. Our Olivia Burton selection of leather is always popular as well as our Japanese brand Seiko or Fossil's Armani watch range.
Leather watches: real vs faux leather?
Leather and faux leather are competing materials. Leather is the real thing while faux leather is a synthetic material made by combining a base material with a secondary material that gives the finished product a leather-like look. Common base materials for faux leather are polyurethane and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Genuine leather is considered a superior material and is, therefore, more expensive.
Are leather watch straps durable?
Genuine leather straps are extremely durable. As a tanned animal hide, leather is virtually impossible to rip or tear. It will not stretch, its integrity will not be compromised by sunlight or water, and it actually looks better as it ages. You can count on a genuine leather strap to last longer than almost any other type of strap.
Are leather watch straps waterproof?
Leather is not naturally waterproof. Its permeable nature causes it to absorb water. However, leather can be treated with additives to make it waterproof. A leather watch strap described as being waterproof has been so treated. A high-quality waterproof strap should remain waterproof for its entire life. Lower quality straps may not maintain full waterproofing over extended periods of time.
