Originally known as the 'Official Swiss Railways Clock', Swiss Engineer and Designer of the Federal Swiss Railways, Hans Hilfiker, created the iconic clock in 1944, in which Mondaine, already a watch company owned by the Bernheim family, was some years later in 1986 inspired by the design of the Railway Clock and designed it into a watch collection with the official license from the Federal Swiss Railways. In 1988, the first Ladies watch by Mondaine became available, and since then the brand have introduced new designs each year that would appeal to a wider audience. As well as this, they also created a miniature size clock to conveniently sit at your desk with the same good Swiss quality movement. From 1994, the Mondaine Railway Station in Zurich, Switzerland became a popular meeting point for friends as it was an obvious choice due to the iconic Mondaine Railway Station Clock displayed, as this was seen from all angle's and could not be missed.
As time progressed, Mondaine created the Evo line in 2001, designed with a slightly domed mineral crystal featuring a magnifying effect, followed by a self-powered night vision effect later in 2005, maintaining a permanent glow for years without any additional source of light. The 20th Anniversary Special Edition timepiece soon followed in 2006, showing off the brand's significant simple, easy-to-read design including the recognized red seconds hand. More recently in 2016, Mondaine excelled to producing their very own Smart Watch, with features including contactless payment technology.
